Melini is historically linked to San Gimignano, whose hills are home to the Vernaccia, a rare grape variety that produces a famous wine that enriched the tables of poets, popes, and kings as early as the 1200s. In 1966 it was the first Italian wine to obtain the Denominazione di Origine Controllata, or DOC. Today it is known as ‘the only white queen in a land of red kings.’ Fine and elegant, it has pleasant floral and fruity notes, with hints of aromatic herbs, spices, and other scents, especially those of the ancient sea.
